Residents of Victoria draws to the attention of the House

The Andrews Labor Government has announced plans to replace 56 public housing units with a massive 252 unit overdevelopment at 2-18 Markham Avenue, Ashburton, that would result in a 22m high, 7 storey development in a quiet leafy neighbourhood which otherwise has an 8 metre mandatory height limit with one or two storey houses.

Prior to the last election Labor promised to consult before any development on this site, however the amount of housing on the site will be outside the scope of the consultation.

We the petitioners therefore request that the Parliament of Victoria to do everything in their power under the Planning and Environment ACT 1987 to reject any redevelopment of the Markham Public Housing Estate in Ashburton which does not follow appropriate local planning rules and associated consultations with the local community
